  • Home Plate
  • The idea

Home Plate connects home cooks with people looking for homemade food. Customers discover kitchens and order meals, cooks manage their menus and orders, and riders handle the delivery.

  • Who it's for

Home cooks who want to sell without a storefront, customers who want food that isn't restaurant food, and riders who want flexible delivery work. The platform is the product; none of the three apps is useful on its own.

  • What it makes possible

Home cooks can sell their food without opening a restaurant. Customers can find and order homemade meals nearby, while kitchens and riders each have a clear view of the orders they need to fulfil.

My role

I was the sole developer on this product: I architected it, built every app in it, and took each one through store release.

The apps

Each one is a separate store listing with its own release cycle.

Home Plate

Home Plate EG

Browse nearby kitchens, order homemade meals, track the delivery live and rate it after.

HomePlate Vendor

Homeplate Vendor EG

Kitchens publish dishes with photos, sizes and add-ons, take orders, and withdraw earnings.

HomePlate Rider

Riders go online, accept nearby orders, follow the route, and get paid through an in-app wallet.

What it does

As published on the store listings.

Ordering and discovery

  • Browse kitchens by category — grilled, sweets, pizza, burgers
  • Daily deals and offers surfaced on the home feed
  • Favourites, so a repeat order takes seconds
  • Multiple saved addresses for home, work or anywhere
  • Live order tracking from kitchen to doorstep

Kitchen operations

  • Menu management with photos, prices, sizes and add-ons
  • Publish, pause, edit or remove any item in a few taps
  • Order states: accepted, cooking, ready for pickup, handed over
  • Wallet with balance, revenue and withdrawal requests
  • Service-area and location management on a map

Delivery and earnings

  • Nearby orders with pickup and drop-off detail
  • One-tap accept, with all active deliveries in one place
  • Built-in maps with turn-by-turn directions
  • Per-delivery earnings and in-app withdrawals
  • In-app chat with the customer and support

What it delivers

The difference this product makes for the business behind it, and for the people who use it every day.

  • One order, visible to all three sides at once

The moment a kitchen accepts an order, the customer sees it move and a nearby rider is offered the pickup. Nobody calls anyone to ask where the food is — the single biggest source of complaints in delivery.

  • A home kitchen becomes a business the same day

A cook signs up, publishes dishes with photos, sizes and add-ons, sets a service area and starts taking orders — with no storefront, no counter staff and no phone line to answer.

  • Earnings that settle themselves

Every order, commission and delivery fee is recorded as it happens, so kitchens and riders see what they earned and request a withdrawal in the app. No end-of-week reconciliation, no arguments over a number.

  • Three apps live, and a platform that can expand

Customer, kitchen and rider apps all passed Apple and Google review and are installable today. Adding a city, a cuisine or a promotion is a change to the platform, not a new project.

How every project is delivered

  • One product, both stores

iOS and Android delivered together as one product, not commissioned twice.

  • Stable when it matters

Built and tested so the app holds up mid-order — downtime costs you customers.

  • Room to grow into

New features and far more traffic without starting the product over.

  • Approved and on the stores

Taken through Apple and Google review and published, not left at a demo.
